Have you ever thought about volunteering?
Our volunteer staff is without doubt the greatest asset of the Strathnaver Museum! And thanks to the Caithness and North Sutherland Fund and SSE we are working to improve the experience for volunteers at the Museum. Our staff volunteer for a wide variety of reasons, to give something back to the community, to meet like minded people, to learn new skills or to enhance their CVs or UCAS applications.
We regularly have training sessions and recent examples include curation training where our volunteers received tuition in how to put together an exhibition. We launched the well received exhibition ‘A Mackay Journey’ in May 2014 which told the story of one family’s journey from Clearance, through WWI to the present day. Past training opportunities have included family history research, museum management, archiving and much more. Upcoming opportunities include further curation work. We are also open to new ideas and if you have a particular interest we would be more than happy to discuss options to help you learn new skills as part of our volunteering programme.
If you would like to find out more about how you can get involved with the Strathnaver Museum we would love to hear from you! To find out how you can get involved please contact Fiona at fiona@strathanvermuseum.org.uk.
