Can you help us to celebrate all the local heroes across Sutherland and Caithness by immortalising them in a decorative plaque of your own design?
Inspired by Mary Garden’s kind donation of a beautiful plaque presented to her grandfather Robert Garden we would like to thank today’s local heroes.
As we are living through quite extraordinary times there are countless groups and individuals who are making huge contributions to our local communities. The strength and resilience of our communities are down to their efforts. We would like to thank them by creating a special exhibition and book which will be placed in our archive so a hundred years from now people can see how we dealt with COVID-19 in Sutherland and Caithness.
But we need your help!
We would like you to take inspiration from the decorative plaque presented to Robert Garden for his contribution to the communities of Sutherland and Caithness at the turn of the 20th century. Robert helped to keep communities connected through his merchant and transport enterprises which “added materially to the comfort and convenience of the public”.
We want you to let your creativity flow and you are welcome to use any material to create your artwork from ink to clay and anything in between. All we ask is that it includes a decorative border and text in the interior naming who you would like to recognise and why they are deserving of thanks. We’ve included a template which you can download to the right, but you are free to use your own design should you wish. For more details please download the attached brief to the right.
Photo’s of your completed artwork, along with a submission form should be emailed to fiona@strathnavermuseum.org.uk. We would also love to see you with your artwork and you can share to our social media pages with the hashtag #SutherlandCaithnessHeroes2020
