In 1914 men from all over what was once known as the ancient province of Strathnaver, or more recently Mackay Country, marched off to war to the sound of the pipes. Help us remember the men involved in World War One as we March to the Museum to the evocative sound of the Highland bagpipes. Explore the role of pipers during the First World War as we tell the story of local piper Alick Mackay in our new community curated exhibition. Listen to our pipers and discover why pipers from this part of the world were, and still are, so highly prized for their skill. Join Strathnaver Museum, Feis air an Oir and other community groups for this great family friendly event with refreshments and children’s activities.
Join us from 12pm at the Bettyhill War Memorial on 16th May before making our way to the Strathnaver Museum.
